Blackburn Rovers may be in line for a surprise pay day thanks to the possible sale of Adam Wharton.
The midfielder came through the ranks at Blackburn before eventually joining Crystal Palace for £20m in 2024 and has continued to go from strength to strength.
Wharton is now even in contention for England’s senior squad and went to Euro 2024 with the national team.

His performances have caught the eye of Real Madrid, according to The Athletic, and that could be good news for Rovers.
Blackburn Rovers’ sell-on clause for Adam Wharton revealed
Venky’s have made plenty of transfer mistakes over the years, but inserting a sell-on clause in Wharton’s contract was a stroke of genius.
The 21-year-old is certain to command a healthy fee if he ever departs and news of Real Madrid’s potential interest is music to their ears.
As it stands, according to Alan Nixon back in April 2024, Rovers inserted a sell-on clause of somewhere between 10-15 per cent.
This means that if Palace sold for £80m, Blackburn would receive anywhere between £8-11m of the fee.
Blackburn need all of the money they can get
There has been a real cost-cutting exercise at Ewood Park in the past few years as Blackburn try to save where they can.
The debt to Venky’s is increasing year by year and seems like it isn’t slowing down.
That potential Wharton windfall is likely to go back into paying that off some of those debts and not, unfortunately, bolstering the playing squad unfortunately.
Regardless, fans will still be proud if Wharton does secure the big-money move after playing a small role in his career.
