Travis Hunter quiet in NFL debut

Two-way superstar Travis Hunter didn’t do much in his NFL debut, but it’s clear what the Jacksonville Jaguars have planned for him.

Hunter had six catches for 33 yards as the Jacksonville Jaguars rolled to a 26-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. Those passes were exclusively on screens or quick slants over the middle. While he wasn’t able to gain more than a few yards at a time, the Jags want to get him the ball in open space.

Moving forward, Hunter’s route tree will certainly expand. He was a weapon for the Buffs on fly routes, posts and crosses. None of those are particularly difficult to run, so it won’t take much NFL savvy before head coach Liam Coen schemes those up.

As for the two-way superstardom, that will have to wait. Hunter played just nine snaps on defense, recording a single tackle on Tetairoa McMillan’s 12-yard catch.

If Hunter will play more on that side of the ball, he’s going to be eased into his role. There’s already so much for rookies to learn and he has double duties.
