Bill Belichick’s second act at North Carolina was one of the most intriguing storylines heading into the current college football season, and it was only natural that he and his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, would try to cash in on the hype. However, the duo has hit a hurdle after multiple trademark applications they filed in an attempt to do exactly that were rejected.

There was no telling what the future held for Bill Belichick when his time as the coach of the Patriots came to an end after 24 seasons following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL campaign. However, most people probably didn’t see things panning out how they have.

You could argue the legendary head coach didn’t have a ton to prove after calling it quits, but that wasn’t necessarily the case.

As things currently stand, Belichick is 26 wins behind Don Shula when it comes to the most victories an NFL coach has racked up over the course of their career, and it doesn’t seem like a stretch to suggest he would like to see his name at the top of that list.

There are also plenty of people who would tell you Belichick’s coaching prowess was inflated by the talents of Tom Brady (an argument that was certainly strengthened by how the former fared in New England after the latter’s departure) and he certainly had some incentive to try to counter that narrative.

The skipper got the chance to do exactly that after accepting the job as the head coach at the University of North Carolina, a surprising twist that’s been surrounded by plenty of drama thanks in no small part to another fairly unexpected development: his relationship with Jordon Hudson, the girlfriend who’s 48 years his junior.

His 24-year-old partner managed to appoint herself as his manager after they started dating, and the duo recently made news over some trademarks that were filed in connection with a line of merchandise that’s seemingly in the works. However, that plan has hit a slight snag.

Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson had multiple trademark applications rejected after trying to pull a Taylor Swift to outplay the Patriots

Last month, we learned TCE Rights Management, an LLC that lists Hudson as the manager, filed a number of applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in April, with phrases including “Chapel Bill,” “Gold Digger,” and (most questionably) “Trail of Salty Tears” among the 17 primarily slated to be used on clothing and jewelry.

There were also four that were amended with “(Bill’s Version)” in a Taylor Swift-inspired attempt to get around trademarks the Patriots had already filed during Belichick’s time with the franchise: “Do Your Job,” “Ignore the Noise,” “No Days Off,” and “The Belestrator.”

According to ESPN, that quartet of requests was recently rejected by the USPTO, which noted “it is likely consumers would be confused, mistaken or deceived as to the commercial source of the goods and/or services of the parties” due to the fact that the Patriots had already beaten them to the punch.

TCE has three months to appeal the ruling and could possibly argue that the Patriots have abandoned the trademarks in question in the wake of Belichick’s departure. Based on a cursory search, some of the other applications that were filed have not been rejected, but they also have not been officially registered.
