Bill Belichick, Jordon Hudson have 4 trademark requests denied

A handful of trademark requests made by Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson have been denied.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office refused four trademark requests made by the TCE Rights Management LLC — company owned by Belichick and run by Hudson — because of the “likelihood of confusion” with trademarks that have already been filed, according to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein.

The four trademarks denied were “Do Your Job (Bill’s Version),” “Ignore the Noise (Bill’s Version),” “The Belestrator (Bill’s Version)” and “No Days Off (Bill’s Version).”

Rothstein noted that the New England Patriots, Belichick’s former employer, trademarked “The Belestrator” in 2009, “Do Your Job” in 2013 and “No Days Off” and “Ignore the Noise” in 2017.

“It was very obvious that the USPTO would refuse these applications from the start,” trademark attorney Josh Gerben of the firm Gerben IP said in his reasoning for the denial. “They’re too similar. Like, I can’t say I’m going to make ‘Nike shoes (Josh’s version).’ Once somebody has a trademark registered on a name or a phrase, you’re not able to just simply add something to it and get it registered.”

According to Rothstein, the trademarks were going to be used for clothing, books and streaming material.

Belichick and Hudson have the option to challenge whether the Patriots still use the trademarks or if Belichick’s contract stated he had ownership of them.

One trademark request that is still pending is “gold digger.” The term has been used to describe the 24-year-old Hudson’s relationship with 73-year-old Belichick, given tje term describes a younger person who’s in a relationship with an older person with the expectation they will benefit from their wealth.

As of Sept. 9, that request is still pending on the USPTO website.
