The Seattle Seahawks will likely be without rookie starting safety Nick Emmanwori against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Emmanowri suffered a high ankle sprain in the team’s loss against the San Francisco 49ers, and is week-to-week, but it seems likely he will not play against the Steelers.
Emmanwori has been helping the Seahawks in the box, but has played in their big nickel packages. Without him around, the Seahawks will likely turn to less of their big nickel package, which could change how they end up playing the Steelers.
Emmanwori is one of the freak testers from the NFL Combine from the 2025 NFL raft. He posted a perfect 10 raw athletic score, with a 43-inch vertical, dazzling everyone. After the NFL Combine, he saw his stock rise rapidly.
Even the Steelers had interest in Emmanwori throughout the process. Pittsburgh had defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander head to Columbia for South Carolina’s pro day, where Alexander worked Emmanwori through his drills. He then came to Pittsburgh for a subsequent pre-draft visit.
If Emmanwori can not play, the Seahawks will start Julian Love and Coby Bryant at safety with more traditional nickel packages, but they have to work through their secondary personnel after a tumultuous Week 1.
