Arsenal and Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Swindon Town’s imposing teenage goalkeeping talent Anton Robinson.
Arsenal and Tottenham are vying for Swindon Town’s imposing teenage keeper Anton Robinson, as per TEAMtalk. The 6ft 5in goalkeeper, born in 2008, has been impressing in the youth ranks, which could earn him a move to one of the Premier League big boys as a developmental prospect.
The goalkeeping position has become rather important for specific aspects of the game that have changed in recent years. Top-level teams and their respective managers prefer specific styles from the stopper, with special emphasis placed on playing out from the back and being good at their feet.
That was not the case with goalkeepers before, as the primary objective of a custodian was to stop shots to their best ability. Hence, there is a big race in the market to recruit top young prospects, as clubs are eager to develop those talents at their own accord.
A big prospect coming from the lower tiers of English football is Swindon Town’s 6ft 5in goalkeeper Anton Robinson. The 2008-born English goalkeeping wonderkid has been impressing with the youth ranks, and recently made the bench for Swindon Under-18s’ EFL Trophy clash, which is an indication of his growing stature within the club.
While a first-team place with the Swindon group is unlikely to accelerate at this stage, he already has plenty of admiration from some of the Premier League big boys. Arsenal and Tottenham are keeping close tabs on his situation, as those teams could make a move to bring the keeper to their developmental squad.
Anton Robinson could be North London-bound
Arsenal have two fabulous keepers in their ranks in David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga, but they are already keeping their options open to develop fresh talent through their youth teams. The Gunners are anticipating future exits for Karl Hein, while the futures of Jack Porter and Tommy Setford remain unclear. Hence, they are aggressively looking at options like Robinson for their future.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are also looking at Robinson in a similar vein, as they too are eager to develop players from the ground up. Hence, Spurs are in the mix for the 2008-born English goalkeeping wonderkid, and future approaches are within the realm of possibilities from both North London clubs.
