Top 10 NFL Teams After Week 1: Chiefs Drop, Chargers Move Up

10. Chiefs (0-1)

I’ll sneak the Chiefs in at 10 solely because of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. If not for several unreal throws made by Mahomes during the second half of Friday night’s game, Kansas City would have lost by more. K.C. will now likely be without Xavier Worthy for an uncertain amount of time, leaving their wide receiver room decimated as a Super Bowl rematch looms ahead in Week 2.

9. Colts (1-0)

The Colts and the Commanders were the only two teams in Week 1 that managed to completely and totally dominate their opponent on both sides of the ball. The Daniel Jones-led Colts outgained the Dolphins 418 to 211 in total yards. Indy also managed to score points on every one of their seven drives.

8. Broncos (1-0)

The final score of the Titans/Broncos game was very misleading. Despite winning by just one score, Denver was in control the whole way through. The Broncos’ defense limited the Titans to just 133 total yards of offense and only 2.4 yards per play. They also managed to sack Cam Ward six times throughout the afternoon, while tallying a total of 12 QB hits.

7. Rams (1-0)

The Rams earned a gritty victory over a solid Houston team with an elite defensive front. Matthew Stafford played well despite missing the entire preseason and most of training camp with a back injury, while Puka Nacua had 10 catches for 130 yards despite being evaluated for a concussion during the first half.

6. Chargers (1-0)

The Chargers were in complete control for the entire game against the Chiefs. After scoring a touchdown on their opening drive, L.A. held the lead for the entire game. The biggest positive to come out of the victory for the Chargers is the stellar performances of Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen, both of whom were question marks coming into the season in regard to how impactful they would be. If Week 1 was a sign of things to come, Johnston and Allen should form a nice trio of receivers with clear WR1 Ladd McConkey.

5. Commanders (1-0)

Washington absolutely manhandled the New York Giants en route to a 21-6 win. The Commanders’ offense outgained the Giants’ offense by 201 yards, 432 to 231. They also severely limited the impact of New York’s two best offensive players, Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy. It was an altogether dominant performance for Dan Quinn’s team.

4. Ravens (0-1)

I’m not going to punish Baltimore for having a bad fourth quarter. Outside of one play—Derrick Henry’s fumble—the Ravens played about as well as they could have. Lamar Jackson had a passer rating of 144.4, the highest of any quarterback in Week 1. Baltimore ran for 238 yards as a team and gained an average of 8.6 yards per play on offense, both of which were the most in the league.

3. Packers (1-0)

Not many teams will come away from Week 1 feeling better about themselves than the Packers. Green Bay handled Detroit and neither Minnesota nor Chicago looked that impressive in their Monday Night contest. In other words, the Packers already appear to be the clear cut favorites to win the NFC North.

2. Bills (1-0)

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen signals to running back James Cook during first half action against the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Sept. 7, 2025.

The Buffalo Bills had the most points (41) and the most total yards (497) of any team in the league during Week 1. And while we can ask questions about Baltimore’s pass defense, the argument can be made that Buffalo might be the only team with enough firepower to go toe-to-toe with Baltimore in a game like that. Props to the Bills for staying in the game long enough to take advantage of the Ravens’ fourth-quarter mistakes.

1. Eagles (1-0)

I’ll keep Philadelphia in the top spot despite the firework show from Buffalo. The Eagles always seemed to be in control during their game with the Cowboys, even though Dallas was able to keep the game close. And keep in mind that the Eagles’ best defensive player was ejected from the game before the first play from scrimmage. Philly should remain a juggernaut going forward.
