Nottingham Forest legend has one ‘question mark’ for Ange Postecoglou after Nuno Espirito Santo exit

Nottingham Forest are undergoing another huge change again, as Nuno Espirito Santo makes way, with Ange Postecoglou set to take over as manager.

The Australian head coach helped guide Tottenham to glory last season with a Europa League triumph, but a historic low finish in the Premier League saw his tenure come to an end.

Now available once again, Evangelos Marinakis has moved quickly to get Ange Postecoglou in at Nottingham Forest, following Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking.

It marks a huge change not only in personnel but in the style of play that the Midlands outfit will be playing.

For club legend Stuart Pearce, it’s the one question he has over Postecoglou’s arrival at Nottingham Forest.

Stuart Pearce questions Ange Postecoglou’s style ahead of Nottingham Forest appointment

Nottingham Forest’s impending appointment of Ange Postecoglou is likely to send ripples through the Premier League.

The main doubt will be just how good a fit this will be for all parties, given the style of play the Australian coach prefers.

Forest legend Stuart Pearce gave some insight into his thoughts on the move, stating on TalkSPORT: “The only thing that worries me, Simon, is the style of play.

“I think there’s a group of players here that have got into a groove and the style of play has brought them success that counterattack. I think certainly the two centre-halves enjoy having people around them to cover them up a little bit and gets the best out of them.

“If you’re going to play expansive and open, does that suit Forest with their counterattack method of play? That’s my question mark with Ange.”

It could end up being quite the shift for Forest, whether it works for the team or not remains to be seen, though.

Nottingham Forest needed a style change this season after Premier League success

While Nottingham Forest were successful last season, there was no guarantee that it would be the same this time around.

The team were clinical in almost every action in both boxes, but with the increase in fixtures in a busy schedule, there were always going to be concerns surrounding how this season would go.

Add to that a new perception about this Forest team, one where teams are willing to sit back against them because they are seen as a better team, which creates some tactical difficulties.

Espirito Santo built his team on being solid at the back and devastating on the counter.

Teams looking to sit back against them, like West Ham did in their 3-0 thrashing at the City Ground, only reinforced the idea that a change in style is needed.

Whether that whiplash to Postecoglou’s style is the right way to go, though, remains to be seen.
