Leeds United deadline day target pens new contract in blow for Daniel Farke

Leeds United and Daniel Farke didn’t have a whole lot of luck towards the end of the summer transfer window.

The summer transfer window closed more than a week ago now. But for Leeds United fans, the disappointment of deadline day is still ringing fears ahead of the return to action.

Leeds United were linked with several players on deadline day, though in the end it proved useless as Daniel Farke couldn’t complete any more new signings.

As the clock ticked towards the 7pm finale, Leeds made a late move to sign Harry Wilson from Fulham.

Speaking ahead of deadline day, Farke said he was focussing on attacking signings. But his side were linked with other players too, including James Hill at Bournemouth.

Bournemouth confirm James Hill contract after Leeds United links

Even when Marcelo Bielsa was manager, Leeds had an interest in signing Hill. Once one of the Football League’s best young defenders, and once a target for Barcelona, Hill eventually joined Bournemouth in 2022, though he’s made just 19 Premier League appearances for the club since then.

Ahead of deadline day, it was reported that Leeds United were interested in signing Hill. And Cherries boss Andoni Iraola failed to rule out a move for Hill ahead of deadline day, though Bournemouth announced on Tuesday that the 23-year-old has now signed a new contract, after his previous one was set to expire at the end of this season.

For Leeds, it may all but rule out a move for Hill ahead of the January transfer window in a few months, adding yet more transfer misery following deadline day.

Players who have been linked with Leeds United since deadline day

As ever, there are more and more players being linked with moves to Elland Road. And even though the summer window has just closed, there are already names being linked with a potential winter move to Leeds.

Recent reports revealed how Leeds United are interested in Nico O’Reilly at Man City, who could leave on loan. There have even been links with Jean-Philippe Mateta at Crystal Palace and with Millwall striker Mihailo Ivanovic.

Elsewhere, Leeds United are linked with a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with Championship trio Hayden Hackney, Isaac Price and Josh Sargent among the others linked since deadline day. For Farke, expect attacking signings to once again be the focus in January.
