Onana Trabzonspor medical date'revealed'as goalkeeper nears Man United exit

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Trabzonspor on Thursday ahead of his proposed switch to the Turkish Super Lig.

Onana has come under scrutiny for a number of his performances since joining the Red Devils from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.

The Cameroon international was still regarded as the club's number one goalkeeper for his first two seasons, but he has fallen down the pecking order this term.

Man United boss Ruben Amorim has opted to field Altay Bayindir in the opening three Premier League matches, leaving Onana to settle for an appearance in the EFL Cup penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby Town.

The 29-year-old has been demoted to Man United's third-choice goalkeeper following the deadline day addition of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

Onana set to undergo Trabzonspor medical in next 48 hours

As a result, Onana now looks set to leave the club in the coming days despite the transfer window being closed in the top five European leagues.

That is because Onana is on the verge of joining Trabzonspor, with the Turkish transfer window open until Friday, September 12.

A **recent report**claimed that Man United have agreed a loan deal with the Turkish Super Lig club, although the proposal does not include a buy option.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Onana will travel to Turkey on Thursday to undergo his medical before making his loan move official.

Onana will join a squad that includes former Manchester City defender Stefan Savic and ex-Southampton forward Paul Onuachu.

Trabzonspor are sitting in second place and two points adrift of Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray after winning three and drawing one of their opening four league games.

Is this the end of Onana's Man United career?

With no purchase option included in the loan, Onana is set to return to Old Trafford at the end of the 2025-26 season.

The Cameroonian still has three years left to run on his deal, which also includes an option to extend by a further 12 months.

However, it is difficult to see how Onana forces his way back into the first-team setup, even if there is a change of manager by the time he completes his loan stint.

Onana has had two seasons to prove he can be Man United's number one, but his lack of consistency has ultimately let him down.

Lammens will be the latest name to get the chance to prove that he can become Man United's long-term first-choice goalkeeper, and if he succeeds, that will surely end any lingering possibility of Onana returning to the fold.
