Former Tennessee wide receiver Jauan Jennings may not miss any more action for the San Francisco 49ers as a result of the shoulder injury he suffered in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.
On Tuesday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Jennings’ ailment, “at this point, does not appear… serious.” The news comes one day after Rapoport informed the masses that the wideout was getting a CT scan and that tight end George Kittle would be out multiple weeks with a hamstring injury.
Jennings departed Sunday’s 17-13 win with 2 receptions for 16 yards. The fifth-year pro has amassed 157 receptions, 1,954 yards and 13 touchdowns in his NFL career. The bulk of that production (77 rec., 975 yards, 6 TD) came last season, when he operated as one of San Francisco’s regular starting wideouts for the first time. That opportunity arrived when Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL in Week 7.
Jennings, who’s in a contract year, held out of training camp in search of an extension. He did not get a long-term deal from the 49ers, but did receive $3 million of playing incentives for this season. Now that he has successfully avoided a serious injury, he can get back on the field and try to meet those marks. San Francisco travels to New Orleans for a battle with the Saints on Sunday at 1 p.m. E.T.
