Falcons bring in competition for Younghoe Koo

Yesterday, Raheem Morris said the Falcons would bring in experienced competition for Younghoe Koo, who missed a game-tying 44-yard field goal in the final seconds of Atlanta’s 23-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Today, the team has done just that, signing Parker Romo to the practice squad, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Romo was a stud in the XFL, making 17 of 19 field goals with a long of 57 yards. That earned him a shot with the Vikings last season, as he appeared in four games and was more than reliable, going 11 for 12 on field goals and 7 of 8 on extra-point attempts.

A veteran body with experience should have been brought in during the offseason to push Younghoe Koo. It doesn’t seem as if it would have changed anything, as the Falcons clearly were blinded by nostalgia and willing to overlook just how abysmal Koo was in 2024. Still, the optics of just handing him the job, only for him to blow the first game of the season, are another stain on the current regime.
