'Massively telling': Leeds United's stance on reigniting Harry Wilson move in January - journalist

Leeds United’s failure to sign Harry Wilson on deadline day has left fans with a bad taste in their mouth. For many, it feels like Leeds have really missed a trick, culminating in Wilson’s failed move.

The final day of the summer window saw Leeds put all their eggs in one basket, and attempt to lure 28-year-old Wilson to Elland Road. But Adam Pope explains why a move to Leeds fell through, for Wilson.

Fulham wanted to make signings before letting Wilson depart. The Cottagers got deals done for Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze on loan, but a £22m deal for Chelsea’s Tyrique George fell through at the last.

Robbie Evans confirmed Wilson wanted to join Leeds. Hardly surprising, given Fulham have just signed two players in his position and wanted a third. Now, there is talk of reigniting a January move for Wilson.

What Leeds are thinking about a January move for Harry Wilson

Reports emerged over the weekend that Leeds could still sign Welsh ace Wilson from Fulham come the winter window. Wilson is in the final year of his Fulham deal and it seems unlikely he will sign a new deal.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that it all depends on Wilson’s game time over the next few months. Failure to start games could mean Wilson is once again keen on leaving Fulham.

“We’ll see what happens over the next three months, and how much he plays. That’ll be massively telling. There is some acknowledgement from within the club that they have left themselves short in attack.”

Wilson proved why he is the missing link at Leeds, last week

It is easy to argue that Darlow provided the game-changing moment during Wales’ win over Kazakhstan last week. A big win in Craig Bellamy’s attempts to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup next summer.

Wales won 1-0, but Darlow’s incredible save kept a clean sheet intact. However, Wilson showed Leeds fans why he is the missing link. It was his set-piece that caused havoc and saw Kieffer Moore score.

Leeds have signed 10 players, nine of which are over 6ft and yet, with Joe Rothwell joining Rangers, Leeds are left without a recognised set-piece specialist. Wilson’s left foot would have completed the jigsaw.
