Alejandro Garnacho has taken to social media to pay a touching tribute to Manchester United's captain, Bruno Fernandes.

The 21-year-old winger spent three seasons playing alongside the United skipper before making a late summer transfer to Chelsea. Throughout his professional career, Garnacho has played more games with Fernandes than any other teammate.

Since making his senior debut against Chelsea in the Premier League in April 2022, the Argentinian international and Fernandes have appeared together on the pitch 132 times, combining to score 10 goals.

The pair enjoyed success at Old Trafford, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, reports the Manchester Evening News. Despite securing a £40m move to Stamford Bridge at the end of August, Garnacho's respect for his former captain remains strong.

"Thanks for everything you did for me, I love you [kiss emoji]," Garnacho posted on Monday, alongside a photo from United's thrilling 3-3 draw with Galatasaray in November 2023. The post was in celebration of Fernandes' 31st birthday.

In that match, Fernandes assisted Garnacho's opening goal for United before scoring one himself shortly after. However, despite their combined efforts in that crucial Champions League group match, United failed to progress to the knockout stages that season.

Now working under Chelsea skipper Reece James' leadership, Garnacho is determined to taste European success. "It's an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club," the Argentine told club media.

"I can't wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special - we're the best team in the world! It's amazing to be here, I'm very happy."

Garnacho went on: "These types of moments give you the taste, and you want to keep winning. When you get to a final, you want to score goals and win the trophy. This is my mentality.

"I have a winning mentality. I have passion and a big personality. So it's a natural fit with a club like Chelsea, which have just won the Club World Cup. Chelsea are at the top now, and it's important to fight for the club like the fans deserve.

"I watched the Club World Cup, and to join the world champions is special - it means we're the best team in the world! It's not common to have played a lot of games at this age, but it has helped me a lot.

"I'm only 21 and I have a lot of experience from these different types of games, stadiums and moments."
