Arsenal star Jurrien Timber has insisted he has no concerns about his knee anymore, despite missing the entirety of his first season at the club because of the injury to it.
[Ajax 1 cover comments](https://www.ajax1.nl/jurrien-timber-over-prijskaartje-ze-wisten-echt-wel-wat-ik-kon/) from the defender made in an interview with Helden in which he discusses the injury which ruined the start to his Arsenal career.
The defender joined Arsenal in a €40m deal from Ajax in July after coming through the ranks at the Dutch club and earning a growing reputation in the Netherlands.
There was much excitement about his arrival but that quickly turned to despair when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his knee on his debut.
That ended up ruling him out for the majority of the 2023/24 season, with the defender spending 253 days on the treatment table and missing 53 games for Arsenal and the Netherlands in total.
The Gunners made sure to ease him back on his return and he’s been a regular since, making 54 appearances in total to date under Mikel Arteta.
That injury is now firmly behind him, and the defender insists he has no lingering concerns, despite being despondent at first.
“When I was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, it didn’t really sink in,” he said.
“I’d just made a good transfer and never really suffered from injuries before. Then it suddenly dawned on me that I was out for a season. One month I felt great, the next I felt despondent and thought: it’s going to take so long… My emotions were up and down.
“To be honest, I didn’t think about my price tag. I was busy getting fit and was eager to show myself again. But that was also due to the confidence I received from the team and the coaches. Before my injury, I had played well, so they really knew what I was capable of.
“Last season, I went into the matches with a lot of confidence. I didn’t have any doubts about my knee, which I was very happy about.
“Of course, there were doubts; I needed to get my feeling back on the pitch. Not that I thought: what was I good at again? But I needed some confirmation: this is what I’m good at.”
