Kawhi Leonard made Raptors demands similar to Clippers investigation

Kawhi Leonard’s 2019 contract negotiations with the Toronto Raptors included unusual and extensive demands, including a trade for Paul George and a stake in the Toronto Maple Leafs. The reports draw parallels to his later contract with the Clippers, which has faced scrutiny for potentially circumventing the NBA salary cap.

Multiple sources familiar with the Toronto Raptors 2019 contract negotiations with Kawhi Leonard in 2019 revealed that Leonard’s uncle and representative, Dennis Robertson, made demands that closely mirror what Leonard reportedly received from Aspiration, the Toronto Star reported.

Robertson’s list of requests was extensive and, in some cases, considered absurd. It reportedly included a trade for Paul George with a high price tag and even a request for a stake in the Toronto Maple Leafs, which was impossible for the team to grant.

These revelations come as the Los Angeles Clippers face scrutiny over Leonard’s time with the franchise.

Reports suggest that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer may have circumvented the NBA salary cap with Leonard’s contract, allegedly paying him $28 million off the books to keep him on the roster.

Pablo Torre also confirmed the additional $20 million in company stock arrived from Aspiration.
