On the hit television series ‘Modern Family,’ Kansas City, Kansas, native Eric Stonestreet’s character, Cam, was gay and married to his ginger partner, Mitchell.
On Tuesday, the real-life Stonestreet — an avid Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and all-things KC fan — announced he and his long-time love, Lindsay Schweitzer, a Kansas City pediatric nurse (and mom to twin boys), were wed.
“It’s my birthday and guess what I got,” Stonestreet, looking fit and dapper in a dark blue suit and blue tie, revealed on Instagram with a string of photos. Next page, clasping hands with Schweitzer in her satin, white wedding dress with a rose bouquet. “I got married!”
Stonestreet, who attended both Piper High School and Kansas State University, turned 54 Tuesday. Schweitzer is 46. People magazine reports that the couple wed at their home in Kansas City.
The celebration included a seranade of acoustic guitars.
“Of all second marriages, this one is my favorite! I love you both! I’m so happy for you!!!!” Stonestreet’s “Modern Family” husband, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, responded on Instagram.
Stonestreet and Schweitzer reportedly met in June 2016 at Kansas City’s annual Big Slick fundraising charity to support Children’s Mercy Hospital. The event began in 2010 by way of a poker tournament hosted by locals-turned-Hollywood stars Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis and Rob Riggle. Over the years, KC’s David Koechner and Stonestreet, along with a myriad other celebrities, including Kansas Citian and “Saturday Night Live” comedian Heidi Gardner, have joined the Big Slick faithful.
After proposing in March 2022, Stonestreet told People magazine that he and Schweitzer connected on multiple levels, icluding upbringing and humor.
“Humor is such an important part of my life, and she allows me to be humorous,” he told the magazine. “I joke all the time that she’s uniquely qualified to be my (partner) because she can put up with me.”
