Manchester United have been told they let a player leave the club this summer who has 'been better than Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte'.

The summer transfer window was a busy few months for the Reds despite Ruben Amorim warning that his club could struggle to complete business. United's attack has enjoyed a complete overhaul after the defence was solidified during the January window.

On deadline day, United managed to add Senne Lammens to their squad to bolster the goalkeeping department and ensure the Reds had a solid, if not spectacular window. However, the one area of the pitch that remained untouched was midfield.

The Reds did not bring any players of note into the centre of the pitch but did manage to keep Kobbie Mainoo, despite him requesting a loan spell away from the club. One player who did leave Old Trafford on loan was Toby Collyer.

Collyer filled in last season for the Reds but the decision was made by Amorim and United that he would be best served gaining regular football in the Championship. West Bromwich Albion were the lucky club to win the race for the 21-year-old who has so far made three brief appearances for the Baggies.

Speaking on What the EFL, former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke hailed West Brom's ability to sign Collyer by comparing him to his more distinguished teammates in the north west. "Toby Collyer got quite a lot of game time for Manchester United last season, albeit Manchester United’s midfield is pretty disastrous, but he is still better than the likes of Casemiro and Ugarte," he explained.

"[He was better] at times last season and now he is there [West Brom] on loan." MEN Sport understands that Collyer was keen to stay at United this campaign and battle for his place in the first-team.

While he was overruled, United have used the Championship as a testing ground for players who they see bright futures for in the past. Recently, Amad made a name for himself on loan at Sunderland only to rejoin the United squad with his status enhanced.
