Falcons Sign Former Vikings Kicker

Just a couple of years ago, the Atlanta Falcons could brag about having one of the best kickers in the NFL.

But after Younghoe Koo struggled last season and had another critical miss in the season opener, that is no longer be the case.

That’s why it’s not a surprise to see that the Falcons are bringing in some competition for the veteran.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, they are signing former Minnesota Vikings kicker John Parker Romo to their practice squad.

Atlanta head coach Raheem Morris said that it would consider its options at kicker.

Romo played in four games for the Vikings last season, going 11-for-12 on field goal attempts and making seven of eight extra point attempts.

He reportedly beat out three other kickers for the spot on Atlanta’s practice squad, as it also worked out Michael Badgley, Zane Gonzalez and Ben Sauls.

Koo missed a potential game-tying field goal in a Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He also almost missed another field goal, and with struggles dating to last season, patience might be running out.

Romo is nothing but a practice squad addition at this point, but he could put pressure on Koo to get back to his old form, ironically beginning in Week 2 against the Vikings.

If he doesn’t do so soon, he’s not going to be given many more opportunities.
