Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Roy Keane has had his say after his old club sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and replaced him with Ange Postecoglou on Tuesday.
Speculation had been rife for weeks that Nuno was headed for the exit door. The now former manager had insisted that his relationship with Marinakis was no longer what it once was following the appointment of Edu behind the scenes.
Just days before the Premier League returns with a trip to Arsenal, Forest decided to sack Nuno and replace him with ex-Tottenham head coach Postecoglou.
When asked on ITV Sport for his reaction to the Reds parting ways with their head coach, Keane did not shy away from his opinion.
"I am not surprised," he said. "Why should we be surprised at what happens at Nottingham Forest?
"I think we know what the owner is like there. No surprises and I've no sympathy for any manager either who goes to Forest.
"You are going to be under pressure with the owner there. I certainly wasn't surprised when they moved him on. It's tough."
Postecoglou won the Europa League last season but Spurs finished just above the relegation zone leading to the Australian being sacked. Reflecting on appointing the 60-year-old, Marinakis said: "We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies.
"His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.
"After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies.
"Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey."
Forest had earlier said in a statement: "Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach.
"The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.
"As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey."
Postecoglou watched Forest train on Tuesday afternoon and will be in the dugout on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.
