”Forgotten” £5M Leeds United man set for shock return to first team

Leeds United return from the international break and are set for action this weekend. They are away from home to Fulham in the Premier League.

Fans will be concerned as the team’s away form so far has been appalling. Leeds have played two games on the road, and have lost one and drawn one. Daniel Farke’s side were battered 5-0 by Arsenal and exited the League Cup to Sheffield Wednesday away from home.

According to a report from Joe Donnohue on Tuesday, Lucas Perri is believed to have picked up an injury in training. The Brazilian is expected to miss this weekend’s game, but the extent of the injury has not been confirmed. Daniel Farke will have more details in Thursday’s press conference. Perri arrived at Leeds United in pre-season with a knock, and many suspect that he never shook it off before the season started. It seems to have affected his kicking, as his distribution in the first few games this season has been shocking.

If Perri is out for the Fulham game, Illan Meslier could be set for a recall to the squad. Karl Darlow will most likely deputize for the Brazilian and the empty squad space reserved for the third keeper could be filled by the Frenchman.

What Stuart Dallas has said about Illan Meslier

Ilan Meslier’s situation is unchangend since the transfer window closed. He remains a Leeds player as he is under contract. Former Leeds man Stuart Dallas had some words when asked if Meslier would be a ”forgotten” man this season:

“I mean, I’m not sure if he’s forgotten. I don’t know if it is the end for him.

“I think they’ve signed a goalkeeper in Perri. They’ve obviously got another fantastic goalkeeper in Karl Darlow, so I don’t know if it’s the end for Illan. Yeah, so he’s still at the club. He’ll continue to work. Stranger things have happened in terms of players fighting their way back into the fold.

“Illan’s a good lad. He’s had a fantastic career at Leeds, you know. He’s played a lot of games at a very young age and I wish him well. If he does decide to move on at some point, I don’t know what the plans are, but yeah, he’s had a fantastic career.

“And he can use this. Look, he’s come into Leeds and he’s just been on an upward trajectory, so it’s gone quickly for him so he can use this setback to, you know, to fuel him going forward.”
