Despite the Philadelphia Eagles capturing their second Super Bowl title in franchise history last year, Howie Roseman hasn't taken his foot off the gas pedal. Along with bringing back most of the championship-winning roster, he's continued to make upgrades as the 2025 season gets underway.
Last week, the Eagles kicked off their regular season schedule with a showdown against their longtime rival in the Dallas Cowboys. Following a rocky start, Jalen Hurts and company managed to walk out with a 24-20 victory.
In the days since this win, Roseman has made an array of adjustments to the roster. First, he bolstered Philadelphia's defensive line in free agency. Then, on Monday night, Roseman used some of his draft capital to add another weapon to the offense.
Eagles receive modest grade for Tank Bigsby trade
In his latest roster addition, Roseman added to the backfield depth behind Saquon Barkley. The Eagles sent a fifth and sixth-round pick in the 2026 draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for running back Tank Bigsby.
Bigsby, a third-round pick in 2023, is kicking off his third year in the NFL. Now, after making his season debut with the Jaguars, he finds himself on one of the league's top title contenders.
In the aftermath of this trade, Jeff Howe of The Athletic handed out grades for this trade. Philadelphia found themselves with the lower grade, landing a B- to the Jaguars' B+.
"Most teams would likely get crushed for giving up that type of collateral for a rotational running back. But the Eagles aren't most teams," Howe wrote. "General manager Howie Roseman has quite the track record for acquiring talented players at a low cost before they go on to play big roles for his team. Plus, Bigsby is under contract through 2026, so he brings a bit of long-term value to the defending champs."
Bigsby took a big step forward as a sophomore, rushing for over 760 yards in 2024. With the Eagles, he'll have a chance to be the primary backup option in the backfield behind Barkley.
Amid this trade, the Eagles' roster has gotten even deeper ahead of their first big challenge of the year. In Week 2, they are slated to face off against the Kansas Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch.
