Real Madrid keeping a close eye on €80 million Tottenham first XI ace; player’s entourage keen

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has emerged as a target for Real Madrid

Thomas Frank has enjoyed a good start to his managerial career at Tottenham Hotspur, winning two of the opening three Premier League games of the new campaign. Their winning start to the campaign came to an end at the hands of Bournemouth before the international break, although there is nothing much to worry about.

Spurs performed well in the past summer transfer window, signing as many as seven players. The focus was on strengthening the attack following the exit of Son Heung-min and the loss of James Maddison to a serious knee injury. The team will take time to gel on the pitch before the fans can expect consistent results.

One of the positives so far this season has been the defence. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, along with full-backs Djed Spence and Pedro Porro, have performed well and helped the Lilywhites keep clean sheets in the opening games against Burnley and Manchester City. Micky van de Ven, in particular, has started the new campaign extremely well and will be hoping to put the injury-ravaged 2024/25 season behind him.

However, a bright start to the campaign has seen the centre-back emerge as a target for a European giant.

Real Madrid closely monitoring Tottenham defender

According to a report from Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Van de Ven. They are looking for a central defender to strengthen their spine at the back in the future, and view the Spurs star as an ideal fit for president Florentino Perez’s project.

Real Madrid strengthen their defence in the summer transfer window with the acquisition of Dean Huijsen. However, with Eder Militao having become injury prone and Antonio Rudiger set to turn 33 in March, the Spanish heavyweights have started planning for the future. And they have set their sights on Van de Ven, hoping to lure him away from N17 in 2026.

The Dutchman’s entourage ‘welcomes’ the possibility of his name being mentioned in the Real Madrid offices, the report adds. However, it won’t be easy for Real to sign the 24-year-old as Spurs value him close to €80 million.

Difficult to turn down Madrid

Real are undoubtedly the biggest club in the world and history suggests players have made their moves to the Spanish capital if the club calling for them. Donning the famous white shirt and playing in a front of a jampacked Santiago Bernabeu is a matter of huge pride and prestige, and that is not expected to different for Van de Ven.

For now, Van de Ven remains a crucial player and part of Frank’s plans at Tottenham. The north Londoners also remain in a strong negotiating position as the Netherlands international’s contract does not expire until the summer of 2029 (Transfermarkt). Nonetheless, the left-footed defender will be wary of the noises coming out of Spain, which hopefully does not become distractive. Instead, it should motivate Van de Ven to continue growing at Tottenham and becoming the best in his position in the Premier League.
