Ange Postecoglou's 10 most memorable Celtic quotes as Nottingham Forest appoint Hoops hero

Ange Postecoglou is back in the Premier League.

The Celtic hero, after leaving Parkhead, spent two years as manager of Tottenham Hotspur and ended his reign in North London by winning the Europa League.

Incredibly though, Postecoglou was sacked in June and replaced by Thomas Frank. But a few months on, big Ange is now the new boss of Nottingham Forest.

Forest have appointed Postecoglou on what is understood to be a two-year contract, with the team 10th in the Premier League after three games.

To mark Ange’s return to management, 67 Hail Hailtake a look back at the Aussie-Greek’s best quotes as manager of Celtic between 2021 and 2023.

Postecoglou’s best quotes as Celtic manager

Before first Celtic match away to Hearts

“I’m still on the same planet mate, I haven’t come from outer space. You’d be surprised how much I know about Hearts.”

After beating Rangers 3-0 at Celtic Park

“We had 60,000 in tonight and I’m sure a lot of them walked in with probably some problems in their life, I think for this 95 minutes we made them forget that and feel good and that’s something special.”

When the ‘we never stop’ mantra was born

“Just get it into your heads: we never stop, we never stop. We’ll stop at half-time, and then at the end of the game when we celebrate. But during the game we don’t stop.”

On Celtic’s Japanese players struggling to understand Scottish accent

“I feel sorry for the Japanese boys. They worked really hard to learn English before they got here and found out it doesn’t help them at all.”

Before Champions League match

“People have been telling me my whole career I’ve only got a Plan A, and they are right. My Plan A is to win things. That’s all I’ve tried to do my whole career and as long as I’m winning things then I’m pretty good. If I stop winning, then maybe I’ll look to change the way my teams play.”

On his style of play

“My view on that is, if you are a strict vegetarian, you don’t drop into Macca’s just because you are hungry mate, you know? This is what I believe in.”

On Rangers appointment of Michael Beale

“On the scale of things that have been on my mind over the last two weeks, I reckon that’s registering below what I’m having for dinner tonight. It just doesn’t really come on my radar. What opposition clubs do, with their managers, any opposition club, is of no real interest unless we’re playing them in the next game. Beyond that, no real interest.”

On keeping players at Celtic happy

“Everyone keeps saying I have to keep everyone happy. Am I supposed to go around making them cups of tea or buy their wife some flowers? They should be happy with a smile on their face every day because they’re doing what they love & representing a fantastic football club.”

On Cameron Carter-Vickers playing through injury

“It’s hard but I’m scared of him so I just let him do what he wants.”

Comparison with other legendary Celtic bosses

“I will never reach the levels of Jock Stein or Martin. Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon, these guys, they have had unbelievable success at this football club. It is almost impossible to replicate. My role here is to contribute and hopefully continue to bring success to this club. Hopefully when I am gone I have left my own mark and I will be more than comfortable with that.”
