Man City dealt major injury scare ahead of Manchester derby, Pep Guardiola could be without 10 players

Man City have been dealt a major injury scare ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday.

The September international break is about to conclude, and, thus far, Manchester United have no fresh injuries to report.

Ruben Amorim was dealt an injury blow before the international break when United beat Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford. Mason Mount carried on playing with a knock before coming off at half-time, while Matheus Cunha asked to be substituted after pulling up and holding his hamstring.

Cunha missed out on the international break as a result, with United yet to reveal how long the Brazilian is expected to be out. There is optimism that Cunha will be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday.

It’s a different story for City, who go into the derby with several absentees.

Omar Marmoush sustains injury blow ahead of Manchester derby

Pep Guardiola was given a fresh injury to worry about on Tuesday night.

Egypt international Omar Marmoush was taken down while playing against Burkina Faso in a World Cup qualifier before clutching his knee in agony.

Marmoush had received a pass from the captain and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah just inside his own half, before trying to turn into the middle of the pitch. That was before Mohamed Zougarana took him out.

While the challenge occurred in the fourth minute of the match, Marmoush didn’t come off until the ninth minute, which explains the discomfort he was in at the time.

This means Marmoush joins City’s list of potential absentees ahead of the derby.

It’s a blow for City because the Egyptian has become a key player since his £60 million January transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt, having scored eight goals on top of two assists.

Man City injury list

As things stand, City are without ten players due to injury.

They include John Stones, Phil Foden, Savinho, Josko Gvardiol, Abdukodir Khusanov, Mateo Kovacic, Rayan Cherki and Kalvin Phillips.

United will be hopeful that Mount or Cunha will be available at the weekend, but fans won’t hear any updates until Amorim addresses the media on Friday.

The same applies to Guardiola, who is expected to provide an update on Marmoush’s injury on the same day.
