It remains unclear whether the NFL will choose to suspend Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter after being ejected from the team's season opening game in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. But if the decision were up to Hall of Fame edge rusher Jared Allen, Carter would undoubtedly be suspended.
While it is unclear whether any words were said between Carter and Dak Prescott prior to the incident, the incident itself, from Carter, reportedly came as a response to Prescott spitting on the ground in what he believed to be the direction of the Eagles' defensive line before the first play from scrimmage in the game.
Most saw this as a clear overreaction from Carter, while others understood why he was frustrated by Prescott's decision to spit first.

But either way, the decision from Carter to spit had significant ramifications for the Eagles' defense in Week 1, which allowed 20 points in the first half of the game amidst Carter's absence.
According to ESPN, Carter is expected at the very least to receive a fine for his role in the spitting incident. But the NFL is also still mulling over whether a suspension of any kind is warranted.
Speaking on the matter on Tuesday on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, Hall of Fame defensive end Jared Allen explained that if he were the one that were spit at by Carter, the incident would have ended in a fight.
"Honestly, there is a chance they might suspend him," said Allen. "I think spitting on somebody is the most disrespectful thing you could possibly do. There is no place for it. The fact that Dak Prescott had the had the composure he did. Because we're fighting, if you spit in my face, we have to fight. That's just all there is to it.
"I don't know what is going on with these kids where they think they can just disrespect the game and the people. To spit on a dude, it says two things. You clearly weren't thinking. Jalen Carter is a force in the middle of that defense. So it's not like you are afraid of the Cowboys. I don't know what the point of that was. Because you really set your team back. As a coach, I don't know how you handle that. I wouldn't handle it well because I think that is the absolute most disrespectful thing you could do to somebody."
Kay Adams then asked Allen what he would do if he were the Commissioner of the NFL. And Allen did not hesitate to say that he would absolutely suspend Carter.
"I'm suspending him, 100 percent," added Allen. "For a game or two. You have gotta remember, if that happens in the parking lot, that is full-on assault. You are getting arrested for that. You can't spit on people. Throwing bodily fluids on people is just gross. Enough."

It's hard to disagree with Allen's stance on the matter. Not only have millions of NFL fans condemned Carter for his actions and his own coaches, as Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio spoke out on the matter on Tuesday.
Only time will tell whether the NFL ends up agreeing with Allen's assessment on the matter. But the overwhelming majority of fans believe that Carter crossed the line and should be held accountable for his actions.
