Under James Gladstone, the Jacksonville Jaguars have shown that they're not afraid to cut ties with underwhelming players. Moreover, they've shown the capability to acquire future assets while keeping their core intact. Their latest trade is proof of it.
Following the 26-10 win over the Carolina Panthers, the Jags sent running back Tank Bigsby to the Philadelphia Eagles in return for two draft picks in 2026.
All things considered, this was a good haul when you take into account that Travis Etienne had a jaw-dropping performance in the opener. On top of that, Jacksonville has Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen in the fold, so they could afford to move Bigsby.
Aside from the former Auburn Tiger, Gladstone also traded offensive tackle Fred Johnson, wide receiver Christian Kirk, and center Luke Fornter. Having made it clear that virtually nobody is safe, it's fair to wonder who the Jags will deal next. With that in mind, here are three players who could be traded after Bigsby.
Darnell Savage, Jaguars safety
The Jaguars answered one of their biggest offseason questions when they listed Andrew Wingard as the starting safety next to Eric Murray. Dewey came out on top after being part of a three-way battle with Darnell Savage and Antonio Johnson for the job in training camp.
Now, Johnson and Savage are the backups, and the Jags can afford to move one from one of them. If they traded either one, they could promote Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig off the practice squad.
Savage could garner interest from teams in need of help at safety. A first-round pick in 2019, the former Maryland Terrapin appeared in 72 games with 69 starts with the Green Bay Packers before joining the Jags in 2024. He didn't play a single snap in the opener, so it would be a good idea to entertain calls if they don't plan to use him.
Emmanuel Ogbah, Jaguars defensive end
The Jaguars didn't add a pass rusher in free agency, choosing instead to wait after the draft to sign Emmanuel Ogbah. Not long after, they also locked up Dawuane Smoot.
Ogbah gives the Jaguars a solid rotation piece behind Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen. However, they may not need him as much as they originally thought due to the presence of undrafted rookies Danny Striggow and B.J. Green II.
By trading Ogbah, Jacksonville would pave the way for Green and Striggow to get more playing time and see what they bring to the table.
Maason Smith, Jaguars defensive tackle
One of the biggest surprises of Week 1 was that the Jaguars made Maason Smith a healthy scratch. Head coach Liam Coen said that the second-year defensive tackle hadn't simply gotten enough practice after missing a good chunk of training camp. In his place, DaVon Hamilton got the starting nod next to Arik Armstead.
Keep in mind that Smith was also made inactive several times as a rookie, so this isn't unprecedented. Maybe he'll bounce back and put it all together. But if he doesn't, don't be shocked if Maason Smith ends up on the trade block at some point of 2025.
