Former Husker Ameer Abdullah signed to NFL practice squad

Former Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah is back on an NFL roster this week, after being signed to the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad. The Colts announced the move on Monday.

Abdullah began the season with the San Francisco 49ers, playing in a single preseason game before a rib injury ended his stint with the team. Abdullah took an injury settlement from the 49ers and was made a free agent.

The 32-year-old spent the 2024 season with the Raiders where he carried the ball 66 times for 311 yards and two touchdowns in addition to hauling in 40 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns across 16 games played.

The former second-round draft pick has career totals of 1,994 rushing yards, 1,468 receiving yards, 3,783 kick return yards and 19 touchdowns.

Abdullah has remained connected with his old Nebraska program all the while. He has come back to Lincoln at various points, including for the 7-on-7 camp this summer.

He rushed for 1,611 yards in 2014 as a Husker senior and was a Doak Walker Award Finalist. He ran for 1,690 yards as junior. He's just the second Husker in history with a pair of seasons with more than 1,500 rushing yards. No wonder he's the name Husker and media speak about the most when it comes to the most recent Nebraska running back to play at an elite level.
