Lakers Are Reportedly Interested In All-Star Wing

The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to beef up their roster, thinking of short-term success with LeBron James as well as a long-term future with Luka Doncic.

Because of that, they have their sights set on a few players who could help them all over the court.

One of the people they are interested in is Andrew Wiggins, currently of the Miami Heat.

Marc Stein recently reported that the Lakers could take a run at Wiggins soon, especially if the Heat are looking to save some cash.

“Wiggins, 30, will earn $28.2 million this season and holds a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27. I wouldn’t have classified him as a potential purple-and-gold target before Dončić’s long-term future was secured, but things are different now. So my sense is that the Lakers would have interest if the Heat, in coming weeks or months, decide to prioritize financial flexibility and look to reduce payroll,” via Marc Stein.

Last season, Wiggins averaged 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists during his 17 games for the Heat.

Before that, he was with the Golden State Warriors and produced 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

Wiggins was a steady presence with the Warriors, celebrated for his two-way abilities but sometimes criticized for his inconsistencies and time off the court.

The Lakers see him as someone who could help space the floor, add defense, and play well alongside Doncic.

The Lakers will pay close attention to Miami in the weeks and months ahead because they think they could get Wiggins on a good deal.

The Heat are attempting to adjust their roster as well, and they want to save money so they have more flexibility to land bigger targets.

That means they could be eager to shed Wiggins’ contract, and the Lakers could take advantage of that.
