Manchester United are set to return to Premier League action on the weekend following the international hiatus. And this could end up being an opportunity for the Manchester Reds faithful to have a first look at deadline day arrival Senne Lammens.
The Belgian goalkeeper is in line to make his debut donning that United badge in the Manchester derby, which is scheduled to kick off on Sunday.

The reports from Football Insider claim how Portuguese head coach Ruben Amorim is prepared to start the 23-year-old against Man City. He is said to have impressed in the first few training sessions at Carrington since arriving at M16 from Royal Antwerp.
Ruben Amorim & Co. sanctioned a €21m transfer to bring the Belgian keeper to Old Trafford. And now, given how he is quite highly rated given his performances last season, he finds himself in the thick of things at M16. It looks like he does have a real shot at establishing himself as #1 between the posts for United, given Altay Bayindir’s shaky start and Andre Onana’s imminent loan move to Trabzonspor.

Lammens competent enough to be United’s first-choice?
It looks like the Portuguese head coach is wasting no time in determining his starter. Amorim (like many United supporters) was growing thin with his patience with Bayindir, given how he has been quite underwhelming at the back. He was handed starts to prove his credentials in the absence of Onana. But with the latter now looking like he is boarding off to Turkey, complemented by how Tom Heaton is quite out of the picture, it looks like Lammens is going to rub shoulders with Bayindir for a start on the derby day.
Manchester United were initially interested in bringing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but the chiefs at Old Trafford ended up deciding to make a move for Lammens instead. While this ended up raising a few eyebrows, the Belgian is seen as a better fit under Amorim, complemented by the fact that he will be more of a long-term option.

If Amorim decides to start Lammens at the Etihad. It will be a debut which grabs his performance a lot of limelight. But given the fact that Amorim likes what he sees in training, he won’t hesitate to trust him on the biggest stage.
