Ruben Amorim signed off on Andre Onana’s summer exit from Manchester United
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has endured a difficult time at Old Trafford since his move to M16, as he grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons. And now the Manchester Reds are ready to sell the Ajax academy product, and this one is said to be a must-call from Manchester Reds head coach Ruben Amorim.
According to reports from multiple outlets, including Fabrizio Romano (via. Manchester Evening), the former Sporting Lisbon manager was given the green light for Andre to move to Turkish side Trabzonspor on a loan transfer. And there are also suggestions that the transfer is set to complete in time for him to play against Fenerbahçe this weekend.
Onana was brought in on a marquee £47.2m transfer from Inter Milan, but to be honest, he never quite convinced anyone of his abilities to take up that #1 role at Old Trafford on a long-term basis. If we talk about his recent time at M16, Onana missed much of pre-season because of injury.
And then he had an underwhelming outing in Man Utd’s recent Carabao Cup loss against Grimsby. It was a performance which was the final nail in the coffin, and it ended his chances to take up his lost position under Amorim.
Two key reasons behind Amorim’s decision to ship off Onana

Onana’s tenure at United has been marked by inconsistency and high-profile errors
His struggles between the woodwork may have been what sealed his move away. But for Amorim it was not just about the form. According to Romano, the Portuguese head coach was looking to avoid this constant media circus over who starts in goal each week at M16.
And then having someone with his wages in the roster only for him to be on the bench is not the kind of noise that Amorim wanted to create.
This transfer to Trabzonspor is an opportunity for Onana to get back some confidence and rhythm after his struggles at United. The Turkish club lost their #1, Ugurcan Cakir, to Galatasaray, leaving the void in goal to filll. They wanted to bring in someone who was a ready-made starter. A perfect opportunity for Onana to get regular minutes again.
Lammens backed to step up

Lammens competent enough to be United’s first-choice?
United did bring in Senne Lammens in the final hours of the transfer window. The Belgian arrives at Old Trafford from Royal Antwerp and is expected to compete with Bayindir for the starting role.
With Onana out of the picture, there will definitely be less limelight on that keeping role, with United having two keepers who are still sharpening their skills on the biggest stage.
