NOW the transfer window has finished, the [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/)' focus has turned to renewing a number of first team contracts.
Two have been announced, with Marcus Tavernier and James Hill securing new deals in the international break.
Simon Francis, the Bournemouth technical director, explained the importance of renewing deals for players who may have had a lack of minutes in previous seasons, particularly with the way Andoni Iraola likes to use his squad.
Francis told the Daily Echo: “I think with the manager you can see that he utilizes the squad at his disposal more than probably most managers I've seen.
“A lot of the players get game time. You can see what he does with our attacking players, the way we want to finish games is always going to be as strong as we start games.
“I think that's something big for Andoni. So the squad is as important as ever, really, as the starting 11 is. So that's been really clear for me to see.
“I think David Brooks has been a great example of that, James Hill.
“Tav is obviously a really important part of the team anyway, but it's important to reward those players that might have had a lack of minutes in the past, but are proving that they're more important than ever within the squad.”
Francis explained that the club aim to reward those players ‘at the right time and for the right number and length of contract’.
“It just feels natural, to be honest, that there's players that might not start every single game every week, but we recognise how important they are to the squad," he said.
“We want to reward that because you just never know, like the time last season when we went up to Newcastle and we had a bench full of kids.
“It just goes to show how important the squad is and a lot of those boys have left now on loan. So we are heavily reliant on our first team squad now, not academy players this season.
“Of course, I think some boys will get their chance at times, but the squad is as important as ever, so the contracts have to reflect that.”
