Manchester United are preparing for their derby game against Man City on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United will come out of the international break with optimism that they can cause problems for rivals Manchester City, who have managed to win just one of their opening three games of the season under Pep Guardiola.
The Red Devils won their last game 3-2 against Burnley, handing United fans cautious optimism. However, it is not like a trip to the Etihad will be easy on Sunday, especially if Ruben Amorim is forced to make line-up decisions based on injury concerns.
Ahead of the game, four Man United players could be in line to miss the game against City, with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot all in doubt. But are they likely to start, and if not, when will they return?
Matheus Cunha
He is currently being assessed ahead of the game on Sunday, and he led many fans to believe he could feature against City, as he posted on social media, including the line: “I’ll be back soon, always with joy and gratitude. Thanks for all the messages.”
Possible return date - Sunday 14 September vs Man City (A)
Mason Mount
Mount suffered a minor injury against Burnley, too, after having featured heavily for Amorim in the early part of the season in a false nine role alongside Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
He is also being assessed ahead of the City game, and if he isn’t fit, it could cause Amorim to start Benjamin Sesko for the first time in the Premier League this season.

Diogo Dalot
Defender Dalot suffered a muscle injury which caused him to withdraw from the Portugal national team squad for the international break. However, it isn’t expected to be a major issue, and even if he’s not ready to start, he is expected to be back for the game against Manchester City on Sunday.

Lisandro Martinez
United’s only long-term injury. Martinez has been out since January, and continues to recover from his ACL injury, which forced him to have surgery in February earlier in the year.
He has returned to training, but there is no chance that he’ll be ready in time for the Man City game. Martinez is likely looking at a return later in the year or early next year.
Possible return date - late November
