Opinion: 3 free agent goalkeepers Leeds can sign after Lucas Perri blow including former Arsenal man

Leeds United have been hit by the news that Lucas Perri looks to have picked up an injury during this month’s international break.

Lucas Perri only joined Leeds United this summer. Daniel Farke’s side forked out around £15million to Perri from Lyon and he’s since started every Premier League game for the Whites.

So far, Perri has two clean sheets from three games. But Leeds United fans criticised Perri’s performance against Arsenal last month, where Leeds were thrashed 5-0 at the Emirates.

But now Farke will have to do without the 27-year-old Perri after news emerged that he’s picked up an injury in training. The extent of his injury isn’t yet clear.

With Karl Darlow expected to be reinstated and the exiled Illan Meslier set for a return to the bench, here are three free agent goalkeepers Farke could sign now…

Lukasz Fabianski

The Polish shot-stopper, now aged 40, is a free agent after being released by West Ham this summer. But Lukasz Fabianski remains one of the most experienced goalkeepers on the market and he’s not called time on his career just yet.

Formerly of Arsenal and Swansea City, and a 57-time Polish international, Fabianski is actually in talks to re-sign for West Ham according to recent reports. But if Leeds desperately need another goalkeeper then they should seriously consider a quickfire swoop for Fabianski.

Tim Krul

Tim Krul is another vastly experienced goalkeeper who’s available right now. The 37-year-old counts Newcastle United, Brighton, Norwich City and Luton Town among his former teams, and he’s another former international too, having played for the Netherlands on 15 occasions.

Last at Luton Town, Krul was a quality goalkeeper on his day and he could be a viable option to at least replace Meslier on the bench, if Perri’s injury is a serious one.

Fraser Forster

Fraser Forster is yet another former international, former Premier League goalkeeper who’s a free agent right now, and the 37-year-old is another potential option for Farke.

Last with Spurs, Forster played four times in the Europa League last season as Spurs went on to win the trophy, before being let go by the North London club at the end of last season. Forster is best known for his stints with Spurs, Southampton and Celtic but also represented Newcastle United early on in his career.
