The Indianapolis Colts’ rookie tight end, Tyler Warren. made his professional debut in the 2025 season opener win against the Miami Dolphins.

Warren had a game-high 7 receptions and his 76 receiving yards in the game were the second most in the game, only behind teammate Michael Pittman Jr’s 80 yards.

“It’s impressive,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen said when asked about Warren’s debut. “Just the physicality, he’s an old school throwback freaking baller is what he is.”

“You can do a lot with him, obviously. You guys saw when we lined him up at fullback… so [going to] keep getting creative with him.”

Warren’s performance in Week 1 landed him on Pro Football Focus’s rookie team of the week, being the highest graded rookie with a 90.4 overall grade. PFF gave the rookie tight end a 78.3 PFF pass-blocking grade and 88.6 PFF run-blocking grade.

The tight end not only landed him on PFF’s rookie team of the week, but also landed him on the publication’s team of the week.

Pro Football Focus also named the former Penn State Nittany Lion as the first rookie of the week in the 2025-26 season.

“You could make a strong case for at least three players to earn this recognition, but Warren gets the nod. The 14th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft led the Colts in targets, and his 3.17 yards per route run ranks second among tight ends this week, trailing only [Las Vegas Raiders] Brock Bowers,” Gordon McGuinness wrote for PFF.

The Indianapolis Colts had three wide receivers pass the 800 receiving yards last season.

Tyler Warren was able to find more targets than two of the three players in the Colts’ season opener against the Dolphins.

Indy’s offensive coordinator said that the team will find a way to continue to coach Warren after having a good debut for the squad.

“We’ll coach him up on all sorts of stuff,” offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said. “He caught some balls and made some nice plays. Did some good things in the blocking game, but there’s always plenty we can coach all our guys on… Good start for a young tight end coming into the league and getting the ball in his hands.”

For Tyler Warren to have a good regular season debut, quarterback Daniel Jones had to target the rookie tight end.

Jones targeted the rookie 9 times in the game, with Warren’s longest catch going for 21 yards.

A reporter asked Warren if it was the QB’s objective to get the ball in his hands, with Warren saying it was more of the flow of the game.

Warren and Jones will form chemistry as the season continues. Warren can expect more production as he gains Jones’ confidence in tough situations.
