Man United plot huge Crystal Palace transfer raid as Man City become ‘leading candidates’ to sign £70m star

The latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Manchester United, Manchester City, Crystal Palace and West Ham.

We may have only just seen the back of one transfer window but another will be open soon enough – and to keep you up-to-date of everything that’s likely to happen in the future, we’re back with our regular morning round-up and review of all the latest Premier League transfer rumours.

Today, we’re starting with a story which may excited the Manchester United fans among you – according to GiveMeSport, who have it from Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are still keen on Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, and the midfielder “could explore” a move away from Selhurst Park in the not-so-distant future.

Apparently, Wharton “was never open to leaving” Palace over the recent summer transfer window as he wants to ensure he gets regular first-team football in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup, but once that’s out of the way he is “likely to consider his options.”

Sides other than United have been linked with a bid for the gifted former Blackburn Rovers star and Romano mentions Real Madrid as a potential destination as well, but the odds of a move taking place next summer are said to be high.

The 3AM Verdict: This entire article is very speculative and nothing Romano says convinces us that he has an inside track on Wharton’s future – we suspect he’s just playing the odds, which probably are that Wharton will get several offers next summer and that Palace are prepared to sell. He wouldn’t be the first player they’ve fought tooth and nail to keep, mind you…

Manchester City now ‘leading candidates’ for £70m forward

Let’s head across Manchester to the Etihad now, for a story from Caught Offside which suggests that City could reignite their interest in Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes in the near future – and indeed that they are now the “leading candidates” for his signature.

Apparently, Rodrygo chose to stay at the Bernabeu over the summer despite interest from City and Arsenal – Liverpool and Spurs are suggested to have been further away from striking a deal, despite stories connecting them with a bid – but may well change his mind with his place in the starting line-up under increasing pressure.

City are now “front-runners” and are “prepared to explore a deal in January”, with Real valuing the Brazilian at €80m (£70m). There’s no word on whether Arsenal could make a second bid, although the arrival of Eberechi Eze makes that less likely.

The 3AM Verdict: We can’t imagine that all that much has changed since the end of the transfer window, quite frankly, and doubt that City make a January approach unless they either desperately need an injection of threat up front or sell a player unexpectedly. There may be movement next summer, but deals like this rarely take place over the winter and Pep Guardiola doesn’t want to increase his squad size any further.

West Ham to make ‘shock’ goalkeeper move in coming days

Let’s wrap up with a story from TalkSport for the West Ham United fans among you – they allege that the club will make a “shock” move to re-sign veteran goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański, just a couple of months after letting him leave the London Stadium on a free transfer.

With Wes Foderingham leaving the Hammers to join Cypriot side Aris Limassol, Graham Potter is down to just two senior goalkeepers and could be set to bring the 40-year-old Pole back to his former club.

This supposedly takes place after West Ham were “offered the chance” to sign André Onana from Manchester United, who of course has now moved on loan to Trabzonspor instead. Apparently West Ham “actively considered” a deal, but David Sullivan “pulled the plug” on talks personally.

The 3AM Verdict: The Onana story is more interesting, of course, but bringing Fabiański back to be third choice seems perfectly sensible given that neither Alphonse Aréola nor Mads Hermansen have been entirely convincing thus far. Onana would have been worth watching at the London Stadium, of course…
