Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush could risk missing the derby clash against Manchester United this weekend after picking up an injury while in action for Egypt.
The forward scored in the Pharaohs in their 2-0 World Cup qualifiers win over Ethiopia last week and started in their goalless draw against Burkina Faso on Tuesday.
However, the Manchester City player had to be withdrawn in the ninth minute and was replaced by Egypt SC’s Osama Faisal.
After the tie, the Egyptian football association released a statement where Dr. Mohamed Abu Al-Ela confirmed the nature of the setback suffered by the 26-year-old.
“Dr. Mohamed Abu Al-Ela, the Egyptian national team’s doctor, confirmed that Omar Marmoush, who played in today’s match against Burkina Faso in the eighth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, suffered a bruise to his knee ligaments,” a statement read.
Marmoush suffered the issues in Burkina Faso and will arrive in Egypt with the rest of the squad on Wednesday.
Egyptian newspaper Shorouk News are reporting the former Eintracht Frankfurt man will undergo an X-ray upon his arrival in Cairo on Wednesday morning [Egyptian time].
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will be eagerly waiting for the scan result to find out the extent of the damage. The player could also undergo further tests after he returns to England.
Marmoush has managed an assist from three league games for the Citizens this season.
