Patrick Beverley reveals NBA failed comeback attempt in 2025 free agency

Patrick Beverley revealed he nearly rejoined the Houston Rockets in the 2025 offseason after training with the team. Salary cap restrictions blocked the move, leaving the 37-year-old veteran without an NBA home.

Patrick Beverley nearly returned to where it all began. The veteran guard revealed on a Twitch stream with N3on that he was in serious talks with the Houston Rockets about a comeback during the 2025 offseason.

“I was in Houston working out with the Rockets for the last two, three weeks,” Beverley said. “I was really close. But with the cap, they don't have a lot of space. They can’t really guarantee, because I think they first apron. But I was really, really close.”

Houston’s financial constraints ultimately blocked the move. After acquiring Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade with Phoenix, the Rockets were hard-capped at the first apron, leaving only $1.3 million in space—less than Beverley’s $2.3 million veteran minimum salary.

Beverley began his NBA career in Houston during the 2012–13 season, quickly earning a reputation as a defensive pest. He made two All-Defensive Teams with the Rockets before moving on to stints with the Clippers, Timberwolves, Lakers, and most recently the Bucks.

He last played a full NBA season in 2023–24, averaging 6.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. After signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv in July 2024, Beverley’s overseas career ended abruptly in February 2025.

Despite calling Israel “paradise” just months earlier, he and the club mutually agreed to part ways.
