West Ham captain [Jarrod Bowen](https://www.claretandhugh.info/jarrod-bowen-bio/) impressed as a second-half substitute in England’s 5-0 World Cup qualifier win over Serbia.
For much of the game it looked like the Hammers winger wouldn’t get his chance, especially after Noni Madueke scored the goal of the night.
But Bowen was introduced late in the second half and immediately looked sharp, linking play with clever one-touch football. His movement and determination to pass and move stood out, and he was unlucky not to register an assist.
Drifting over to the left-hand side, Bowen demanded the ball before cutting into the box and whipping in a venomous cross for Ollie Watkins. The Aston Villa striker tapped home, but the goal was ruled offside.
Whether this cameo will sway England boss Thomas Tuchel remains to be seen, but Bowen certainly didn’t harm his chances of a place in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad.
Other standout performers on the night included Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson, who have given Tuchel a welcome selection headache when the squad is fully fit.
As for the West Ham captain. he was a menace and if he keeps performing for the Hammers he’ll have given the England boss warning that he must be in the World Cup squad.
