England's World Cup qualifier against Serbia in Belgrade was temporarily halted after a laser pen was directed at Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa's face.
The Villa defender was visibly taken aback in the 38th minute when a green light from the crowd was aimed at his head.
This incident occurred shortly after another pen seemed to be shone at Reece James as he prepared for a free-kick. The game was paused by experienced French referee Clement Turpin, who went to consult with the fourth official.
Following the resumption of play, a public address announcement warned fans against the use of laser pens and other pyrotechnics. At that point, England were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Noni Madueke, and Konsa had the final say with his first international goal after half-time, making it 3-0.
The Football Association of Serbia could face further repercussions due to their fans' conduct. With the crowd at the Stadion Rajko Mitic already reduced by 15 per cent for the match due to previous misconduct, another penalty may be forthcoming.
Riot police were compelled to enter the stands midway through the second half when fans started chanting anti-government songs, and there were also chants related to Kosovo throughout the match.
