REPORT: Arsenal And Tottenham Scouting 'Rare Gem' Who Could Make It To The 'Very Top Of The Game'

Arsenal and North London rivals Tottenham have both been keeping tabs on Swindon Town goalkeeper Anton Robinson, according to reports.

The teenager has not been handed his debut by the League Two side yet but TEAMtalk have described him as a “rare gem” who has the potential to reach the “very top of the game”.

Robinson is 6ft 5 so he definitely has the requisite size to be a strong shot-stopper, and it looks as if he is not far from making his first appearance at senior level.

The keeper was named on the substitutes bench for Swindon’s 3-2 win over Reading in the EFL Trophy last week.

Compensation would need to be paid to Swindon

If the Gunners do push ahead with a move for Robinson, the club would likely need to pay a fee to secure his services.

Robinson is not 18 yet, so he isn’t tied down to a professional contract, but FA rules stipulate that a compensation package is required.

Academy transfers are rather complicated and it can take a while for a deal to be approved, as the FA have a strict five-step process to ensure all procedures have been followed.

Arsenal have been strengthening their academy

Academy director Per Mertesacker has added two players to the Under-18s this summer. Keeper Remi Lupinski was signed from MK Dons at the end of July.

Callan Hamill was also brought in from St Johnstone. The defender has already made 3 appearances in the Under 18 Premier League, scoring his first goal against Birmingham City.

Of course, the vast majority of youngsters do progress up the youth ranks at Hale End, without the club needing to raid other academies for talent, but there are exceptional cases, and Robinson appears to be one of those.
