Andre Onana is nearing his departure from Manchester United, but his recent international duty with Cameroon has been far from productive, particularly due to his role in Cape Verde's winning goal.

The two African nations faced off in a crucial qualifying match, but the goalkeeper, who is set to join Turkish outfit Trabzonspor, did little to enhance his reputation.

His blunder occurred in the 53rd minute when Cape Verde forward Rocha Livramento regained possession, shrugged off a Cameroonian midfielder at the halfway line, and charged through their defence.

This left him in a one-on-one situation with Onana, who chose to stay on his line, but his second error was diving the wrong way as Livramento's shot found the back of the net down the middle of the goal.

The victory now leaves Cape Verde on the brink of securing their first-ever appearance in a World Cup.

Cameroon now sit in second place and may have to face a play-off to secure their World Cup spot, despite boasting big names like Carlos Baleba and Onana's United team-mate Bryan Mbeumo.

After the final whistle, Cape Verde fans swarmed the pitch to celebrate the crucial win, arguably the biggest in the country's history.

During the celebrations, one fan tried to get a picture with Onana by pushing his phone into the goalkeeper. Understandably furious with the result and the fan's behaviour, Onana reacted by shoving him away in the face.

Onana's transfer to Turkey is expected to be confirmed shortly, marking a pause in his error-ridden stint in Manchester. Signed by Erik ten Hag two years ago, he has largely remained the first choice under Ruben Amorim, despite a series of high-profile mistakes.

His most recent mistake occurred when he attempted to claim a delivery into the box against Grimsby, only for the play to conclude with the ball in the back of United's net.

Remarkably, the 29-year-old has managed to double his salary by agreeing to join the club and will head straight to Turkey from Africa.

United won't receive a loan fee and there's no option for the Turkish club to sign Onana permanently once his contract expires, meaning he'll return to Manchester where a decision on his future will need to be made.

The goalkeeper had previously impressed at Ajax and Inter Milan, but failed to find his feet, or hands, in the Premier League.

Amorim had dismissed suggestions that he would be moved on during the summer, but has opted for Altay Bayindir in the three league games so far, although Onana was injured for almost the entirety of pre-season.
