Newcastle United facing huge backlash as 45 Champions League tickets sent to private school in…

· 10 September 2025, 11:00

**Newcastle United return to Champions League action next week when Barcelona head to Tyneside in what promises to be a special night under the lights at St James' Park.**

Fans have been clamouring for tickets to the game. It's one of those fixtures that could sell out the stadium twice over and still have a waiting list.

However, some fans were left furious yesterday when it transpired that a school in Dundee had been handed 45 tickets for pupils to attend the game next week, then, of course, there'll be extras for the teachers and chaperones also going along, so the real figure is probably more like 50.

The school are operating an overnight trip for 45 pupils who will attend the match and stay overnight in a hotel in the city.

Newcastle United Supporters' Trust have asked for answers from the club

It's not so much that these tickets have been 'given away' that fans object to as much as why it wasn't one of the schools in and around the Tyneside area, and why this was done for such a high-profile game.

The Newcastle United Supporters' Trust have contacted the club for an answer but has yet to receive an appropriate response, according to their statement on X last night.

> "We have been inundated with messages regarding a school in Dundee being given 45 tickets for the Barcelona fixture. "With >100k in today’s member sale queue and countless tickets on 3rd party sites at vastly inflated prices, we completely understand the ongoing frustration from our members and the wider fanbase.

> "We have sent this to the club and continue to push for a response."

It's a strange move by the club

-------------------------------

We obviously have no issue with kids being handed such a fantastic opportunity, but it is a head-scratcher as to why, for this game in particular, a school from Scotland has been chosen to benefit from the scheme.

That's 50 tickets that could have gone to real fans, or at worst, kids with some form of attachment to the club.

It does seem like a big misstep by the club. A good idea poorly executed is probably the nicest way of putting it.
