Leeds United are intent on expanding Elland Road to a much larger capacity, which would allow for more growth in revenue terms for the 49ers.
Premier League football in 2025/26 has meant a massive increase in revenue and the 49ers plan to use plenty of cash on redeveloping Elland Road into being one of English football’s elite stadiums.
It’s fair to say that the 49ers are hoping to unlock more of Leeds United’s enormous potential via the redevelopment of Elland Road. They have a similar situation in the San Francisco 49ers’ 68,500 capacity Levi’s Stadium.
Leeds City Council agreed to negotiate a sale of Elland Road land and it’s been said that a final decision on Elland Road is imminent in the coming weeks, with final details yet to be ironed out and potentially altered via the Elland Road consultation process.

Leeds’ Elland Road plans over the next 10 years
Leeds plan to expand Elland Road’s capacity from 37,792 to around 53,000. As reported by The Athletic, this will see the West Stand expanded from 8,000 to 17,750 and the North Stand from 10,401 to 15,300.
It’s not just the capacity which will improve, but also redeveloping the stadium and surrounding areas to improve the matchday experience. To achieve this, new tiers, a new roof, and new internal spaces are all planned for the West Stand.
However, the north-west corner of the ground is set to be demolished and then replaced. It’s added that the aim is for the West Stand to be ‘similar in scale’ to the existing East Stand.
Plans for the North Stand are not yet finalised but a new tier is expected. According to that report from The Athletic back in May, construction plans will get underway with advanced site works as early as this month.

However, it’s reported that work on constructing the new-look West Stand is not expected to begin until May 2026 and won’t be completed until later into 2028. Work isn’t expected to be finished on the North Stand until 2030.
It’s a five-year timeline for construction and redevelopment, but further details now highlight exactly why they need to be done in time, with other plans for the stadium after that date coming to light via Graham Smyth.
Leeds United and the Leeds City Council are set to bid for 2035 Women’s World Cup games to be held at Elland Road. Smyth reports Leeds believe their redevelopment plans will make Elland Road a ‘leading candidate’ to host international tournament games.
Morrie Eisenberg said: “The women’s game has enjoyed huge growth over the past decade, which will only continue over the coming years and we want Elland Road to be part of that legacy, this is another example of the city and club coming together to drive positive impact for the Leeds community.”

ALeeds United Newsexclusive has explained how the 49ers will increase Elland Road revenue further via the increase in ticket pricing, much like the SF49ers have had in USA.
Paraag Marathe has outlined Elland Road details prior to the Everton game. He explained exactly what that entails for the club, speaking via Sky Sports. He said: “First, I’ll start by saying we have so many supporters in Leeds being a one club city.
“Potentially, the biggest one club city in Europe. The day we open the stadium with more seats, we will be able to fill it. Because that’s just how passionate Leeds supporters are.
“The reason we want to do it is to get them in. And, honestly, to create more revenue so that every penny we earn gets back onto the pitch.”
