Newcastle United's summer transfer window was a frustrating one for Eddie Howe's squad - but there can be no denying the Magpies' squad - on the whole - is stronger than the one they had coming into the window.
It's been a strange window with the Club World Cup impacting transfer business earlier this summer, though the Magpies didn't necessarily take advantage of said change where their rivals did.
The recent transfer window opened early on Sunday, June 1 before closing on Tuesday June 10 for an exceptional registration period for club's participating in the expanded 2025 Club World Cup.
The window wasn't just for the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, though, with Premier League and EFL clubs also free to do business during the earlier window.
However, Newcastle would only bring in Antonio Cordero - for an undisclosed fee - following his departure from Malaga, while Lloyd Kelly's permanent move to Juventus was rubber-stamped having agreed an obligation to buy back in January.
It wasn't until the 2025 summer transfer window reopened on Monday, June 16 that Howe's side began to conduct some serious business, with the last arrival, Yoane Wissa, coming in on Deadline Day on Monday, September 1.
The reason the window opened and then closed, was due to FIFA rules, which state that a transfer window cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year.

However, with no Club World Cup on this year's football calendar, any clubs looking to repeat their earlier transfer business will have to wait until the window opens on Monday, June 15 before closing on Monday, August 31.
Newcastle's Premier League rivals Liverpool were able to sanction the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, while bringing in Jeremie Frimpong before the window even opened.
Man City were able to bring in Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri, in time for their Club World Cup endeavours, bolstering their squad in the first part of the 2025 summer transfer window.
Next summer, clubs won't be able to repeat that transfer trick and they will have to wait until the window opens properly. It's worth noting that Newcastle's transfer business has often come in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, beyond June 30 - with that date the end of the Premier League's financial year in 2025 - owing to their ongoing battle with PSR guidelines.
