Andre Onana nightmare justifies Man United transfer call despite fresh headache

Andre Onana is on the verge of leaving Manchester United for Turkish side Trabzonspor but they might be regretting their decision to move for his services after yet another howler

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has left the club in yet another nightmare scenario despite his imminent exit.

The Cameroonian is on the verge of making a season-long loan switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The move will bring to an end a poor two-season spell with United. Onana’s displays having been blighted by a series of high-profile errors.

And while he might be hoping for a fresh start, Trabzonspor might have some serious doubts if they’d have tuned into his latest display.

Onana was named in the Cameroon side to take on Cape Verde, who were ranked 73rd in the world ahead of kick-off, in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday.

But they ended up losing 1-0 courtesy of Dailon Livramento’s second-half strike.

The forward had run from his own half after Carlos Baleba had sloppily given the ball away.

And instead of coming off his line to narrow the angle for Livramento, Onana remained hesitantly planted, giving the Cape Verde star the opportunity to simply fire past him and give his nation a memorable win.

While United might reflect on his latest howler as justification for his exit, it has actually left Ruben Amorim’s side with a fresh headache.

In losing, Cameroon now look likely to face an energy-sapping route to a potential World Cup place.

They will likely face a play-off against fellow African sides to determine which of the four best group runners-up will go into an inter-confederation play-off scheduled to be played next March.

And Cameroon will certainly need their best players - including United forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Back to Onana, he will certainly hope that’s the last error he makes for a while as he prepares to embark on his Trabzonspor career.

There is optimism that he can make his debut this weekend as the side take on Fenerbahce.

United boss Amorim has a dilemma over who to start in goal for this weekend’s Manchester Derby.

Altay Bayindir has been his starting goalkeeper in the league but has endured an indifferent start to the season.

Senne Lammens is also ready and available following his deadline day move from Royal Antwerp.
