Ex-United boss bizarrely rides on e-bike at half-time in World Cup qualifier

Ralf Rangnick raised eyebrows on Tuesday by riding an e-bike across a football pitch during a World Cup qualifier with Austria.

The former Manchester United manager has delivered an unbeaten run in their qualification group with four wins from four thus far.

A 2-1 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina extended their 100 per cent record and puts them one win away from taking top spot.

With the score 0-0 at half-time, Rangnick was tasked with delivering his team talk before the second half got underway.

However, he took an unconventional mode of transport on his route to the dressing room at the Bilino Polje Stadium.

Rangnick was spotted on board an e-bike and swiftly made his way past other members of the Austrian contingent.

The bizarre scenes came with good reason though, with the 67-year-old recently undergoing surgery.

As reported by the Mirror in July, Rangnick needed an operation on his ankle and was discharged.

However, he was readmitted to hospital having picked up an infection in the wound.

An Austrian FA representative then confirmed: "Ralf Rangnick is doing well. Nobody needs to have any concerns about his health."

It appears as though Rangnick is simply resting his ankle with the use of his bike in Bosnia.

And Austria's win has taken them a step closer to the 2026 World Cup as they can overtake their midweek opponents with a game in hand.

How has Rangnick done since leaving United?

Rangnick joined United as interim manager in 2021 after the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and was then set for a consultancy role.

Towards the end of his spell, he claimed that the club needed 'open heart surgery' before they finished sixth in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag replaced Rangnick, who agreed to join the Austrian national team and didn't take up the consultancy position at United.

The German began his new role with Austria after they missed out on qualification for the 2022 World Cup.

Despite relegation to League B in the Nations League, Rangnick was able to guide them towards a spot at Euro 2024.

Austria reached the last 16, and their manager even turned down the chance to join Bayern Munich.
