The West Brom defender known for his Manchester United wondergoal who carved out career as Sporting Director

Some have gone on to have impressive careers on the field - while many have gone into the dugout. Some have done well, some have had less success.

Many have left the game to do other things - but there aren't many who have gone upstairs into the boardroom.

One of those though is a former defender - who after departing Albion and later ending his playing career, decided to move into the world of sporting directors.

Promotion winner Bernt Haas signed for Albion in 2003 - and was part of the side that won immediate promotion back to the top flight.

He was a regular in Gary Megson's side but was probably best known for his wonder goal scissor kick in the League Cup victory over Manchester United.

In his second and final season he would play only ten times - and was moved on eventually going on to play in France, Germany and finish his career in his native Switzerland.

Haas retired in 2010 and following his play days he became a 'player consultant', before taking up a position as sporting director at FC Vaduz and later Swiss Challenge League side FC Schaffhausen.

His move into the sporting director world didn't come without controversy though.

He was fined for his role in the club fielding ineligible players - with two key members of the side featuring in games without having valid work permits.

But that didn't stop him going on to land a big role - at his former side and Swiss top flight outfit Grasshoppers.

A two year stint came at the top flight club before he left last year - and after a year out of the game he made a return to his former side Schaffhausen.
