Nottingham Forest recently brought in Ange Postecoglou to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, just three games into the Premier League season, and Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, has shared how the players have reacted to the surprise news.
The news of Nuno's sacking may have come as a shock to a large portion of the football world, with Forest sitting in 10th position after just three Premier League games. GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that Evangelos Marinakis and Nuno's relationship became untenable after the latter spoke publicly of their broken relationship, which came as a surprise to the Forest hierarchy.
Informal talks between Postecoglou and Marinakis have been taking place since August, and the arrival of Edu from Arsenal has led to a change in dynamic, with Nuno no longer seen as a good fit. The former Wolves manager wasn't happy with Forest's business in the summer transfer window, despite a host of new additions arriving through the door.
Fabrizio Romano: Forest Players' Reactions to Nuno Sacking
Nuno Espirito Santo
Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has confirmed that the Forest squad have reacted in a professional way after Nuno was sacked and Postecoglou appointed earlier this week. The respected reporter claims that they will now speak to the former Tottenham Hotspur manager in order to discuss their vision ahead of their game against Arsenal this weekend...
"In professional way. They will now speak to the new manager in order to discuss new vision from next game. Big respect for Nuno, but it’s football."
Managers regularly come and go in football, and it's something that players are forced to get used to as professionals. The sacking of Nuno was a little unusual in comparison to your usual managerial changes, simply due to the excellent job he did last season, getting the club into Europe.
It was a far from disastrous start to the 2025/2026 campaign for Forest, but there was clearly tension behind the scenes, and the removal of Nuno from his position wasn't due to results on the pitch as they sit in the top half of the Premier League. Whether Postecoglou will be a success at the City Ground remains to be seen, but it's certainly going to be an interesting situation considering the contrast in styles between the Australian manager and Nuno.
