Bahamian Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) professional player Jonquel ‘JJ’ Jones added some accolades to her already extensive collection this week.
Jones, 31, was named to the All-WNBA First Team and All-WNBA Defensive First Team for the 2025 WNBA season.
It was the New York Liberty center’s second All-WNBA First Team selection of her career, and the second since 2021.
Despite dealing with the injury bug earlier in the season, the 2024 WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) is turning in a strong season, averaging 13.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, while shooting 49.8 percent from the field and 43.7 percent from long range.
The decorated player has a few notable distinctions under her belt, including a WNBA MVP (2021), a WNBA championship and finals MVP (2024), five all-star selections, a WNBA most improved player award (2017), and WNBA sixth woman of the year award (2018).
As for the Liberty, the reigning WNBA champions have dealt with some regular season woes, but they remain in the fight to defend their WNBA title.
The team has a 4-6 win/loss record over the last 10 games and an overall 25-17 record, placing them fifth in the WNBA Standings.
Although they had their fair share of struggles this season, the team recently clinched a playoff spot.
Jones and the Liberty played the Washington Mystics at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, last night, but the result was unavailable up to press time.
Jones and the Libs will take on the Chicago Sky in their regular season finale, on the road, on Thursday. That game is set to get underway at 8 p.m.
The WNBA playoffs are expected to begin on Sunday, September 14.
